This was a very colorful and festive time. In the past this was the main market for growing flowers and vegetables. Now it is a net of channels with many "trajinera" escorted by the native people of the place while they sail by in boats offering flowers, handicrafts and typical dishes. All the while listening to the "mariachis" who also sail by on board of other trajineras while playing and singing their classical songs. All of the larger boats were skillfully propelled by a strong man with a long pole. Often we would see friends with 2 or 3 boats joined side by side. They would be having a party, reunion or celebration complete with lots of food, wine, beer or tequila and naturally the happy sounds of the mariachis. What a fun way to spend a Saturday or Sunday.
